Sri Lanka Consulate General in Karachi promotes bilateral trade between Sri Lanka & Pakistan through KATI
The Consul General of Sri Lanka in Karachi Jagath Abeywarna met with the newly elected President of Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) Faraz Ur Rehman and the office bearers of KATI on 3rd November 2022 at its head office in Karachi with view to enhance bilateral economic ties between Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
KATI was made operational in 1970 and it is by far one of the largest industrial estates in the country spreading over an area of 10,000 acres. All major industries including pharmaceutical, chemicals, engineering, textiles, paints, leather, and food industries are located in the KATI. There are more than 5000 industrial and commercial units including 370 textile mills operating at the KATI.
The President of KATI Faraz Ur Rehman and their office bearers showed interest in exploring possibilities to enhance collaborations between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. They also highlighted a few sectors namely leather, pharmaceutical, and chemical and textile as potential sectors for collaborations between the two countries. A few webinars on the above sectors between KATI members and Sri Lanka counterparts will be organized as a first step in the near future.
