Sri Lanka Consulate General in Karachi hosted a Diplomatic Reception to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Independence of Sri Lanka and the 75th anniversary of establishing Diplomatic relations with Pakistan on 6th February 2023 at the Marriott Hotel in Karachi.
Chief Minister of Sindh Province Hon. Syed Murad Ali Shah was the Chief Guest and representative of the Pakistani Government at the event which was also attended by Government Dignitaries, Consul Generals, Heads of Chambers & Associations, Vice Chancellors, important business entities, tour agents, media personnel and representatives of the Sri Lankan community.
In his congratulatory remarks, Hon. Syed Murad Ali Shah referred to the vibrant political and economic relations that the two countries have developed since 1948, in addition to the historical relations. Hon. Syed Murad Ali Shah requested Pakistan nationals make Sri Lanka one of their preferred destinations for tourism.
Extending a very warm welcome to all the participants, the Consul General of Sri Lanka in Karachi Jagath Abeywarna highlighted the progress made by Sri Lanka during the past 75 years in building a democratic nation and a harmonious society. He also expressed his confidence that the country would rise up from the current economic abyss and come back stronger during this year.
The event provided an opportunity to create awareness on improved Sri Lanka’s current situation and invite Pakistanis to enhance the existing collaboration with Sri Lanka.
On 04th February, prior to the above event, the Consulate General, in collaboration with the Sri Lankan community in the Sindh province, organized a National Day Celebration at its premises. The Event was attended by a large number of Sri Lankans as well as some Pakistan dignitaries including the Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka for Hyderabad Mehmood Mandviwalla.
Speaking at the above event, the Consul General requested the Sri Lankan community to work in unity, leaving aside all our differences to make the freedom we gained more meaningful and productive.
