Sri Lanka Consulate General in Karachi organizes an event to mark the donation of 25,000 eye corneas to Pakistan and a blood donation camp
The Sri Lanka Consulate General in Karachi organized an event on 09th September 2023 at the Avari Towers in Karachi, in collaboration with the Eye Bank Society of Pakistan and the Eye Donation Society of Sri Lanka to mark the donation of 25,000 eye corneas to Pakistan which also included a blood donation camp.
A delegation from the Sri Lanka Eye Donation Society, led by Secretary, Board of Trustees, M G Nandalal Premaratna, presented 10 eye corneas to the President of Pakistan Eye Bank Society Qazi Sajid Ali at the event to symbolize this significant contribution.
Hon. Minister of Tourism and Youth Affairs of the Sindh Province in Pakistan Syed Junaid Ali attended the event as the chief guest.
Approximately 150 invited guests attended the event, including the President & members of the Pakistan Eye Bank Society, professionals from the healthcare sector, and Sri Lankans residing in Karachi.
Simultaneously, the Consulate General, in collaboration with the Thalassemia Society of Pakistan, organized a blood donation camp at the same venue. Sri Lankans living in Karachi and Pakistani nationals donated blood to support children under the care of the Thalassemia Society of Pakistan.
These events were part of a series of activities organized to commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, reflecting the strong bond between the two countries.
The event featured performances by Chandana Wickramasinghe & the Dancers Guild and Sri Lankan singer Sonal Prabashitha, adding a cultural and artistic touch to the celebration.
The event was a significant humanitarian and diplomatic effort aimed at strengthening the ties between Sri Lanka and Pakistan while making a positive impact on healthcare and charitable initiatives of Sri Lanka in Pakistan.
All major media outlets in Pakistan provided extensive publicity for the event.
