The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Karachi launched the first session of its new tourism promotion initiative, “Meet Your Sri Lankan Travel Agent,” on 11 June 2025, with an online meeting between leading Sri Lankan travel companies and AEG Travel Services of Pakistan.
Consul General Mr. Jagath Abeywarna highlighted Sri Lanka’s potential as a destination for Pakistani tourists and emphasized the importance of strengthening tourism partnerships.
Representatives from prominent Sri Lankan travel companies and SriLankan Airlines’ Country Manager in Pakistan Ruwan Wijekoon, joined the session and held productive discussions with AEG Travel Services on joint tour packages, destination promotion, and MICE opportunities.
Tourist arrivals from Pakistan to Sri Lanka peaked in 2015 at 32,300, but declined due to the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks, visa restrictions, and limited promotional efforts. A promising 71.62% increase was recorded in 2023, with 10,744 Pakistani visitors, followed by a further 25.19% rise in 2024, bringing the number to 13,451 — reflecting renewed interest and growth potential.
The B2B series will continue in the coming weeks, with additional sessions planned to engage more Pakistani travel agencies.
